THE ROLES OF CHRISTIANS IN GOVERNANCE

There’s an unfortunate attitudes of believers this days.

The believers gather around and blame the government and political leaders for their woes and troubles.

According to spiritual knowledge, it is supposed to be the other way round.

The Bible didn’t call the political leaders the SALT of the earth. Instead it refers to Christians as the salt.

Matthew 5:16 KJV
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

From scriptural lessons we could read in several parts of the bible how earthly kings go to prophets and priests for direction.

In the time of moral crisis, poverty, dearth and death the earthly leaders reach their tether ends. Then do the believer rises because they are the custodians of the light.

For the light shines in darkness but the darkness could not comprehend it

No matter how dark the season of life is, and even in government the believer has the light of God within – if he knows.

We can see many interventions of the following in government:

Elijah with Ahab and the rain.

Elisha during the siege of Samaria

Hezekiah and Isaiah

Jeremiah and King Zedekiah.

Christians are not called up as mere onlookers. They are called into responsive duty to their world.

It’s time Christian leadership stop the nonchalant attitude to leadership and governance.

Foremost, Christians are called to pray for leaders of the world:

1 Timothy 2:1-3 KJV

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
[2] For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
[3] For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

Christians from the above discussion are not called into the ministry of murmuring , instead we are called into the ministry of intercession for our nations.

Whatever isn’t working in your government is a call to prayer.

*Do you know why?*

1. Many of the earthly leaders have fraternal relationship with demons. With prayers we deactivate their dominion over the believers.

2. Many times, the leaders lack spiritual power to execute good plans and agenda.

Agenda don’t just execute itself. It requires sustained will. The power to sustain it comes from the spiritual

3. Nothing great or extraordinary is achieved through the earthly wisdom or understanding.

Christians need to superimpose the supernatural on the earthly leaders.

Christ taught us in his prayer: Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Let the believer know that earthly leader cannot do any good thing without the help of God.

No matter the agendas of our leaders or their supposed manifestos, they need prayers and supplication for execution.

Like the prophets of old, be a spiritual leader in the background. Pray and if need be, let the leaders in government and politics begin to consult you for helps and guidance.

Finally, when the salt lose its saltiness, it is cast away. If we cannot salt the government arena and the political terrain we would have to accept whatever comes our ways from their end.

Enough of murmuring and complaints. It’s time to pray…

*Let us pray:*

Lord, we pray on behalf of our nations, raise men who pray and supplicate. Because you said if your people who are called by your name would rise and pray you’ll hear them.

Dear Lord, we stand in the gap for our nations. Heal the land and take over the sovereignty of our land.

Let not the heathen rage anymore. Silent them Father.

In Jesus name have we prayed.
