CARELESS LOVER

UNFETTERED THOUGHT

Dorothy entered into her elder sister’s room quietly. She sat beside her. They were both silent for a while, for it was like Mary anticipated her line of discussion.

“Mary,” Dorothy said, “he seem to be your kind of man.”

“Who?”

“The last man,” she smiled as she squizzed her sisters palm.

“Who is the last man?”

“Mr Felix of course,” Dorothy continued, “Your countenance radiated differently beside him. I have never seen you so free with any man before now.”

“Really? I just felt I should make his day.”

“No, sister, you love this man than all the others who have been coming around you. I can see it all over you.”

“Yen yen yen,” Mary pulled out her tongue out jeeringly, “Too much talk.”

“Sister,” Dorothy said, “you know Dorothy is a stubborn girl. “Look me in the eyes and tell me you don’t love him. Look into my eyes.”

Mary ducked her head. “Why do you want to know?”

“The reason is simple: I don’t want you to trifle this opportunity away. You’re growing older. Look, Helen and me already have fiancés even though we are your younger sisters.”

“Caring sister,” Mary teased her.

“Not just me, dad, mom, Helen, big brother and me. We all care about you.”

“I know, I know,” Mary said as she tapped the edge of the bed absent mindedly, “What do you want me to do?”

“We want you to open your mind this time around if you love him. You know what it is when people say you use spirituality as a veil for being proud.”

“Let him propose first, we have met only once my sister Dorothy.”

Dorothy agreed: “I hope this work out.”

She hugged her sister as she left her presence.

The plane touched the ground.

Mr and Mrs dropped from the plane and ahead of them was boldly written J.F.Kennedy Airport.

It was a tedious journey for the honeymoon from Africa. She was tired, Felix understood so he refrained his delicate wife from any hazzle. They took a taxi and not too long got to the hotel booked from home country.

They both had their bath and slept for a couple of hours. Then she felt his firm hand caressing her gently behind. She’s beginning to love the gentle move from behind.

“You know I love you my angel.” He said whisperingly into her left ear.

“I love you too Felix,” she said as she pulled his left hand over her breast.

Suddenly, she felt the door opened. “Sister,” Helen shouted, “We are going out. Dorothy said I should tell you.”

“Common you woke me from my wonderland.” She hissed as if she should return back to America.

“With who in the wonderland?”
“Gerraout,” she pushed Helen out of her room laughing.

“Hey church girl thinking of a man,” she thought, “May God forgive me.” She cuddled herself into a single chair in her room and beginning to think. Could this be love that came and swept me off my feet and reasoning? Well time would tell.

She learnt that love could make one misbehave if one isn’t the prayerful type. Now that her heart is skipping at the thought of Felix, she knew she needed to go into deep prayer. She remembered our Lord’s admonition: men ought always to pray and not to faint so as not to enter into temptation.

This is a big temptation for her to say no if it happened that Felix isn’t the man. She had been expecting this, and now it came over her: she had never felt it like this before.

Mary began to pray for strength because she knew she’s already beginning to fall head over heel in love with Felix. She knew she also needed confirmations if Felix was the man. So she prays intensely.

Then a phone number rang. Looking on the phone, she could recognize the number. This was the pastor’s wife. They talked at length, like the pastor’s wife she asked about just everything pertaining to Mary’s welfare.

“See me after Sunday service, I have an important discussion to have with you.” Mrs Toun, the pastor’s wife finished as she ended the phone conversation.

“Things seem to be moving too fast,” Mary said to herself as she went down to the kitchen for lunch.
