CARELESS LOVER Part 23

CARELESS LOVER Part 23

BATTLE FROM THE PALACE

Agnes and Mary were meeting after many days. They met at Mary’s house.

“I have come to see how you’re faring my darling friend.”

“Very well,” Mary replied.

“I begin to wonder how you were able to pull Felix behind you so fast.”

“Grace of God and strong resolution.”

“Or tell me: Have you given in to Koyejo as friend.”

“As friend, yes. But sincerely speaking there’s no string attached.”

“Now I know.”

“Know what?”

“Women don’t give up on love so easily only when an alternative is in line.”

“Are you insinuating that I jilted Felix? You were part of the process of laying Felix away.”

With all the cascading events against the relationship, Agnes was one of the strong advocate against the coming together of Felix Danule and Mary Mouton. She sold the same idea to her mom and with the two very strong influence in her life she yielded based on evidence and reasons regarding threat to her life.

Mary remembered one of the instances when Agnes began to list all the bad experiences one after the other. Then she moved on to paint sordid future of woes and possibly death marrying Felix.

“If you’ve been through all this,” she said, “I’m beginning to wonder what will befall you after marriage. Think over this.”

The same day she got home to meet her mom weeping profusely. Mary was afraid as she rushed to her mom.

“Mom,” she said trembling, “what’s the problem.” The mom didn’t answer. “Is somebody dead? Mother talk to me.”

“No my daughter. If my enemies have died it would have appeased me of this daily haranguing on your life.”

“Oh no mama,” she shook her head to dismiss her word. “Not at it again.”

“Eee,” her mom stumped her feet around the room. “My enemy are at it again ooo. Other people are getting married without much ado. But my daughter… The enemy set all hell loose.” Her teeth began to quake.

Mary couldn’t leave her as she sat with her to comfort her.

After much persuasion she let Felix gone but the tumult it caused her nearly caused her heart to burst. It was a silent pain and personal pain. She cried in the corner but put on a fake smile out there.

Then Dr Koyejo stepped in to ease this burden. It was a welcomed gesture that relieved her of some pain.

Back to the room where Alice and Mary sat, Mary was quiet and switched off for a while. Silent.

“Mary, are you angry? I didn’t say you jilted Felix. I mean I commend how you were able to transform so fast.”

Mary was silent for a while. Then she began to cry.

“What’s the matter Mary?”

“My life is drifting apart and I have no one to stand by me or understand.”

“I’m with you. Mary sincerely with you. Trust me, all I did was to preserve you, your life and dignity. Maybe out of fear. Rest on me, rest on me.” Mary slept off for an hour while Agnes hanged around. She cannot leave her alone.

She woke up and they talked.

“What has Koyejo done to you?”

“All I can say for now is that my life is tearing apart. I have lost love and I have lost peace.”

Meanwhile, Helen and Donald were both online. She downloaded the new plot. She’s rightly the Monitoring Spirit of Felix.

“I’m aware of a new catch by Felix. She’s a princess and her name is Jessica. I want you to discourage her subtly.

She created a story of how Felix was a cunny fox who knowing the place of a princess like Jessica in his next phase of life masterminded how his former fiancée Mary was maltreated with unending threat to her life in a way that made her bowed out by herself.

The story went forth to describe Felix agenda to go into the oil and gas business and would be needing strings and connections from Jessica and her family who were strong political figures in the country.

It went on to describe Felix as one terrible being who’s a user. Then ended with lists of ladies he had used both sexually and otherwise to get to where he’s presently.

Helen also used the medium to launder herself as the only baby mama Felix dumped for others. She also showed the picture of her little baby.

The next day, it was news everywhere.

Jessica visited Felix. “I have not been in the country for years. So Felix, I want to ask you this: How true is the news?”

“Nothing is true there but one. I had affairs with Helen a little more than a year ago. Then she claimed to have a boy for me recently.”

“Where is the boy?”

“She’s out of the country with her supposed pregnancy.”

“You didn’t take responsibility?”

“I doubt her claims but my mom insisted that I keep sending money to her abroad since I’m very capable and a man of means and wealth to avoid sinning against the boy if eventually I’m responsible.”

“Felix, you’re such a good man.” She smiled mischievously and continued: “When I grow up I’m going to marry somebody like you.”

Felix bursted into laughter: “Somebody will think I’m your uncle.”

“Felix, I believe you. Since school days you’ve not failed to amaze me with your quietness and lovable character. As a friend I’ll see how far I can go to unravel all this naughty knots you entangled yourself with.”

“About Mary. I pity her. She’s the one who paid the price for your entanglements.”

“I have not thought of it that way. I felt that she left me when I needed her most.”

“I feel for her.” Jessica said. She tend to open his eyes to the unseen subtle game design possibly masterminded by Helen against every relationship that would ever be.

She left him. In the next few days Jessica pulled some strings and Donald was fished out as the journalist working behind the media propaganda against Felix. Donald surrendered and confessed to be hired for the job by Helen. Through Jessica unrelenting behind scene he was sent to a short term imprisonment for the offence of defaming characters of his subjects.

Helen remained at large.
