13 And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.
14 And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee? Judges 6:13-14
Gideon confirmed to us here that his choice as the deliverer was not an accident. God does not and will never make a mistake about his choice of a man over others on a specific assignment.
Many of us may not want to agree why he picks on the “foolish” over the “wise” but he knows; and would always prove himself right.
In spite of all he was going through, Gideon still had his memory flooded with the goodness and wonders of God to his forefathers. In another words; If God can do it for our fathers he should be able to do the same again and again, that God of yesterday remains the God of today.
Elisha has similar encounter that activated the miraculous in his life. His master, Elijah had just been taken to heaven. In his hand was the mantle of Elijah, the flooded river of Jordan was before him. He remembered how his master used the mantle to part the river. In the same way he smote the river and he has it parted.
14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over. 2King 2:14
He believed the God who worked in the days of Elijah is still much available in his own days; Elisha went ahead to do twice miraculous exploits of his spiritual father.
When God gives you an assignment, you can also plot your own lines of faith by taking a look at what he has done in the lives of people who were before you.
Are you passing through any crisis? Find someone who by faith has surmounted similar challenge; therein build your faith for your victory.
When Gideon concluded his recital of God’s goodness in time past, God answered him: “Go in this thy might”.
How does it apply to you and me today?
When we recognize a limitation ahead of us today:
- We should have the strong belief that God is with us
- We should believe he has given us might and all it takes to forge ahead
- And we should recount his goodness and wonders in time past; believing that the same power of his is available to help us.
This is all you need to break through the limits:
Go in this thy might.
